With only a couple days notice, Emily decided to throw herself in the running for the annual Cupcake Throwdown.

25 bakers prepared and donated samples of a chosen flavour and went head to head, vying for cupcake supremacy. As soon as the doors opened, Fortune Sound Club was jammed packed with sugar loving foodies ready to vote for their favourite cupcakes. The evening was a complete success and together $4800 was raised for local charities – RainCity Housing, Five Star Footy Club, and Leaky Heaven Youth!

CupcakeThrowdownPrizes were given out for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd best cupcakes overall – as well as for presentation and most original flavour. When Pigs Fly Pastries was more than thrilled to take 2nd place overall with the Alice in Wonderland inspired “Dreamsicle” cupcake – a French vanilla cupcake with fresh orange filling & Italian buttercream!

Thanks to everyone who was able to come out and make this evening such a huge success!

I hope many of you got to see the hilarious little play “Matt & Ben” – put on by some talented budding actors in Granville Island this past month!

This show featured a comedic look at the lives of Matt Damon & Ben Affleck before they were famous. When Pigs Fly Pastries was excited to have cupcakes featured in every show. As well, an assortment of mini cupcakes in “Matt & Ben theme” were available for everyone after the show on opening night! “How do you like them apple cupcakes”, the “Boston [cream] Ben”, and the “MAAATT DAMON” were the featured flavours of the evening. They were a lot of fun – both to make and to serve! When Pigs Fly Pastries looks forward to working with Maladjusted Projects again soon!

It was with great excitement that North Vancouver boy, Bo Palmer, was drafted into the CFL. Beginning his football career at the tender age of 8, despite his small size, there were stars in Bo’s future right from the get go. Soon he was smashing records at Windsor Secondary, then leading the SFU team as the offensive MVP. Throughout the years it was obvious that Bo was going places… and with that speed, he was going there fast! At 22 years old, he was picked 33rd overall by the Hamilton TigerCats. Both brains and brawn, Bo will be joining the TiCats in one year, after graduating from SFU with a major in communications, and a minor in criminology.

A surprise party was thrown to celebrate all the hard work and dedication of this talented young athlete. With an endless amount of delicious food, walls adorned with old photos and articles, tearful speeches, and a hoard of fabulous people – a great evening was had by all. When Pigs Fly Pastries was more than happy to make a cake to honour this milestone achievement.

Congratulations, Bo! Can’t wait to see a blur of you in black and gold!
